Engine and Powertrain Specifications

The 2025 Ford Expedition® offers two engine options, both based on a 3.5-liter twin-EcoBoost® V6 platform. The standard engine generates 400 horsepower at 5,200 rpm and delivers 480 pound-feet of torque at 3,300 rpm. The high-output version produces 440 horsepower at 5,400 rpm and 510 pound-feet of torque at 3,300 rpm. Both engines share key characteristics such as an aluminum engine block and aluminum alloy cylinder heads. They employ twin independent variable camshaft timing (Ti-VCT) to optimize valve operation, improving efficiency and power delivery.

The engines use a twin-turbocharged forced induction system controlled electronically, combined with both port fuel and direct injection. The compression ratio is maintained at 10.5:1 in each engine, with cast exhaust manifolds. A forged steel crankshaft ensures structural integrity under high loads. Ignition is managed by a coil-on-plug system for precise spark control. The standard engine is optimized for regular fuel, while the high-output variant requires premium fuel. Oil capacity for both engines is six quarts including the filter.

Transmission and Drivetrain Configuration

Power from the engine is transmitted via a 10-speed automatic transmission featuring SelectShift® technology. This transmission is designed to provide smooth shifting and improved fuel economy by selecting the most efficient gear for current driving conditions. Gear ratios range from a low of 4.696:1 in first gear to 0.636:1 in tenth gear, with a reverse gear ratio of 4.866:1. The final drive ratio differs slightly between drivetrains, with 3.31:1 for rear-wheel drive configurations and 3.73:1 for four-wheel drive variants.

Drivetrain options include rear-wheel drive as standard, with ControlTrac® four-wheel drive available for enhanced traction. The TREMOR® trim comes equipped with ControlTrac including an eLocker limited-slip differential with a 3.73 ratio, providing improved traction on challenging surfaces.

Suspension and Handling Systems

The 2025 Ford Expedition® uses an independent short- and long-arm front suspension system equipped with coil-over shocks and a stabilizer bar. The rear suspension features an independent multi-link setup also with a stabilizer bar. Both front and rear shocks are gas-charged to provide effective damping and ride comfort. An optional continuously controlled damping system is available, which adjusts shock absorber firmness dynamically based on road conditions and driver inputs, optimizing both comfort and control.

Braking and Safety Control

The braking system in the 2025 Ford Expedition® includes power-assisted four-wheel disc brakes. The system integrates antilock braking technology (ABS), brake assist, and electronic brakeforce distribution.

Additional safety-oriented braking functions include Post-Collision Braking, which automatically applies brakes after a collision to reduce the risk of secondary impacts.

Wheels, Tires, and Exterior Dimensions

The 2025 Ford Expedition® offers multiple wheel and tire options tailored to different trims and purposes. Standard wheels range from 18-inch dark alloy-painted aluminum to 24-inch dark tarnished metallic bright machined-face aluminum on higher trim levels. Tire specifications vary accordingly, with all-terrain tires standard on off-road oriented trims like the Active and TREMOR® and all-season tires provided on luxury trims such as Platinum®.

Exterior dimensions vary between the standard and MAX (extended wheelbase) models. The standard 2025 Ford Expedition® has a wheelbase of 122.5 inches and an overall length of 209.9 inches, while the MAX version extends the wheelbase to 131.5 inches and length to 221.7 inches. Both versions have a maximum width of 80 inches excluding mirrors, which increase total width to 94.6 inches. Maximum vehicle height is approximately 78 inches.

Approach, departure, and ramp breakover angles are engineered to support moderate off-road capability, with ground clearance near 8.7 to 8.8 inches, depending on model.

Interior Space and Capacity

Inside, the 2025 Ford Expedition® prioritizes space for occupants and cargo. Passenger volume measures up to 171.8 cubic feet in the standard model and 175 cubic feet in the MAX. Headroom in the first and second rows reaches up to 41.8 and 40 inches, respectively, while third-row headroom is 37.4 inches.

Legroom is generous across all rows, with first-row maximum legroom of 43.9 inches. The second and third rows provide 41.1 and 36.5 inches of legroom, respectively, with some configurations allowing the third row legroom to expand to 43.5 inches when the second row is adjusted fully forward. Hip and shoulder room measurements support comfortable seating even in the third row, with shoulder width near 64.2 inches in the rear.

Cargo capacity behind the first row is 108.5 cubic feet in the standard model and increases to 123.1 cubic feet in the MAX. The volume behind the second row is 60.8 cubic feet (standard) and 75.4 cubic feet (MAX), with additional space available when the second-row seats are folded forward. Behind the third row, cargo volume is 21.6 cubic feet in the standard wheelbase and 36.1 cubic feet in the MAX.

Towing Capabilities and Trailer Assistance

The 2025 Ford Expedition® supports heavy towing loads, capable of hauling up to 9,600 pounds with the 4x4 standard wheelbase configuration and up to 9,000 pounds in the 4x4 MAX. Minimum Gross Combined Weight Ratings reach 15,900 pounds for 4x4 standard and 15,600 pounds for the 4x4 MAX.

Trailer handling is supported by multiple technologies. Pro-Trailer Hitch Assist simplifies the process of aligning the vehicle with a trailer hitch. Pro-Trailer Backup Assist enhances reversing control by allowing the driver to steer the trailer using a control knob while the vehicle manages the steering system.

Driver Assistance and Safety Technologies

Standard driver-assist systems include a 360-degree camera system that provides a comprehensive view around the vehicle. Adaptive Cruise Control maintains a set speed and distance from the vehicle ahead to reduce driver fatigue on highways. Automatic Emergency Braking with Pre-Collision Assist helps prevent or mitigate frontal collisions.

The 2025 Ford Expedition® also features Auto High Beams for improved nighttime visibility and BLIS® (Blind Spot Information System) with Cross-Traffic Alert and Trailer Coverage to monitor areas alongside and behind the vehicle. Evasive Steer Assist supports driver maneuvering to avoid obstacles, and Lane-Keeping System helps maintain proper lane position.

Intersection Assist improves safety by warning and assisting the driver when approaching intersections. Reverse Brake Assist can apply braking automatically to prevent collisions during backing maneuvers. More advanced systems such as Ford BlueCruise® hands-free highway driving and Ford Co-Pilot360™ Active 2.0 are available on select trims, providing semi-autonomous driving capabilities.
