Powertrain and Drivetrain Configuration

The 2024 Ford F-150® Lightning utilizes a dual electric motor arrangement, mounted transversely on the front and rear axles, delivering all-wheel drive traction. Each motor is a three-phase fixed magnet AC type, assembled domestically at the Van Dyke Transmission Plant. There are two battery configurations that influence power output. The standard-range battery model produces a targeted peak power of 452 horsepower (337 kW), while the extended-range battery model increases power output to 580 horsepower (433 kW). Despite differences in horsepower, both variants deliver the same peak torque of 775 pound-feet (1050 Nm), which provides strong acceleration and towing capability.

Battery Capacity and Charging Performance

Two lithium-ion pouch batteries with liquid cooling are offered, featuring internal battery management systems. The standard-range battery provides 98 kilowatt-hours of usable energy, whereas the extended-range battery increases capacity to 131 kilowatt-hours.

Charging the Lightning includes several options. DC fast charging using Level 3 chargers rated above 150 kW can bring the standard-range battery from 15 to 80 percent in about 32 minutes and the extended-range battery in about 38 minutes. Level 2 charging options include the 48-amp Connected Charge Station and the 80-amp Ford Charge Station Pro, with full charging times ranging from approximately 10 to 20 hours depending on charger amperage and battery size. A 30-amp mobile charger is also available, taking 15 to 20 hours for a full charge.

The electric range varies with battery selection and model trim. EPA estimates indicate around 240 miles for the standard-range battery and up to 320 miles for extended-range versions such as the Flash and Lariat® trims. The Platinum trim with extended range offers approximately 300 miles.

Disclaimer: Calculated via peak performance of the electric motors at peak battery power. Your results may vary. Horsepower and torque are independent attributes and may not be achieved simultaneously.
